Pope on war in Ukraine: “The only rational thing to do would be to stop and negotiate”

Pope Francis assured that he constantly prays for the people of Ukraine, suffering from military aggression, wishing that wisdom would inspire concrete steps towards peace, writes Vatican News.

After the “Angel of the Lord” prayer on Sunday, July 31, Pope Francis recalled that the day before he returned from the Apostolic Journey to Canada, and used the opportunity to thank everyone involved in organizing and conducting this “pilgrimage of repentance”, from civil authorities, leaders of indigenous nations and bishops.

“Also, during the trip, I never stopped praying for the long-suffering Ukrainian people who are experiencing aggression, asking God to free them from the scourge of war. Looking at reality objectively, considering the harm that every day of war does to this people, but also to the whole world, the only rational thing to do would be to stop and negotiate. May wisdom inspire concrete steps for the world,” the head of the Vatican added.
