On July 26, 2022, Metropolitan of Budapest and Hungary Hilarion (Alfeyev) met with Tristan Azbej, Hungarian Secretary of State for Relief of Persecuted Christians, mospat informs.

The representative of the Hungarian state warmly welcomed Metropolitan Hilarion with his appointment to the Budapest and Hungarian See, expressing hope for further strengthening of cooperation between Hungary and the ROC in the matter of protecting Christians from persecution.

Metropolitan Hilarion mentioned that his previous meeting with Mr. Azbej took place on November 28, 2019 as part of the II International Conference in Budapest dedicated to the persecution of Christians.

The parties discussed various aspects of cooperation in helping Christians in the Middle East and agreed on further contacts.
