In Volhynia, Nesvich’s “self-defense” blocks the way to the church for the UOC community

On July 17, 2022, the road to the village of Nesvich in the Lutsk region was blocked by activists of the local “self-defense”: cars were allowed to enter the village selectively, blocking the passage of the rector of the St. Michael’s Church of the UOC and his parishioners from neighboring villages. It is reported by the UOJ.

On the morning of July 17, the service was supposed to start at 8 o’clock, but the priest only got to the temple at about 11: he and several parishioners arrived at an impromptu checkpoint at 9 and lost two hours debating with opponents. Then, when the law enforcement officers came to the call, they took a statement from everyone who was waiting to be allowed into the village, as well as from the activists. At about 10:30 the priest left the car and went to the temple on foot. A little later, transport was allowed into the village.

The community knew about the upcoming provocation: in the same way, the road to Nesvich was blocked a week earlier. Then the rector, Archpriest Nikolai Kovalchuk, was not allowed to drive to the temple. At the same time, the deputies of the local council led the activists. And on the day of memory of the holy apostles Peter and Paul, the “blockers” were on duty at the entrances to the village from six in the morning, being sure that the service was scheduled.
