The Synod of the Alexandrian Patriarchate, whose meeting is held from Monday to Wednesday, from January 10 to 12, published a statement in connection with the creation of the Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa, in which it “expressed deep sorrow” over this, writes the Orthodoxia news agency.
After the report of Metropolitan Gregory of Cameroon on the topic “The fight against the invasion of the Orthodox Churches on the African continent”, which discussed the recent decision of the Holy Synod of the Moscow Patriarchate to establish an exarchate in Africa, a statement was formulated by the Alexandrian Patriarchate.
“The ancient Alexandrian Patriarchate expresses deep sorrow over the synodal decision of the Moscow Patriarchate to establish an Exarchate within the jurisdiction of the Ancient Alexandrian Church, a decision taken between the holidays of Christmas, the Tsar of Peace, the Incarnate Christ. The Alexandrian Patriarchate will continue to fulfill its pastoral duty to its flock entrusted to the Lord, obeying the spiritual heritage of the great Greek Church Fathers,” the statement reads.
