In the Nativity message, the head of the Church of Constantinople, Patriarch Bartholomew, announced the rite of cooking the myrrh, scheduled for 2022. Almost all Local Churches will take part in this ceremony, while it is possible that the “hierarchs” of the OCU will be attracted to it in the Phanar, writes the SFU.
The rite itself will take place in Constantinople (Istanbul) on Holy Week, that is, during the period of the strictest fast in the year before Easter, which falls on April 25 in 2022. Thus, the joint worship and the rite of cooking the myrrh will be performed in the period from 18 to 23 April 2022.
In 2022, most local churches will receive myrrh from the Patriarchate of Constantinople: their chrism is brewed in the ROC, the GOC and the Romanian Church.
7 Orthodox Churches, which did not recognize the Phanar`s project in Ukraine, but receive myrrh from Constantinople, should respond to the possible presence of “bishops” of the OCU at this ceremony. These are the Antiochian, Jerusalem, Serbian, Bulgarian, Polish, Albanian Churches, the Church of the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
