Metropolitan Clement of Nizhyn discusses the religious situation in the region with OSCE representatives

On July 21, 2021, Metropolitan Clement of Nizhyn and Prilutsk (Vecherya) met with representatives of the OSCE Mission to Ukraine and discussed with them issues of religious freedom in the region. Human rights activists recorded information about the events related to the beating of believers and the obstruction of the procession of the Chernihiv residents, which were committed by a group of radical people in Nizhyn in June 2021. This was reported by the Information and Education Department of the UOC.

The OSCE representatives inquired about the progress of the investigation of the crimes committed against the believers of the Nizhyn diocese as a result of such hooligan actions and learned about the role and consequences of the participation of representatives of the city deputy corps in this incident.

The mission representatives were also interested in the actions of provocateurs on social networks with calls for physical threats against the believers of the UOC.
