In the Kiev region, they said goodbye to the founder and first governor of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky monastery of the village of Knyazhichi, Archimandrite Sofroniy (Shinkarenko), writes Vzglyad.
The Divine Liturgy, the rite of the funeral service and the burial of Archimandrite Sophrony was performed by Bishop Ambrose of Zgurov. Vladyka was co-served by the priests of the Borispol, Kiev and Nizhyn dioceses.
For a long time, Father Sophrony was the confessor of the Bobrovitsky deanery of the Nizhyn diocese and the Kiev Florovsky convent.
Numerous believers came to say goodbye to the elder.
In the early 1990s, Archimandrite Sofroniy, being a resident of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and fulfilling the obedience of the treasurer of the monastery, received the blessing of Metropolitan Vladimir (Sabodan) to revive the ancient Transfiguration monastery in the village of Knyazhichi. In the fall of 1992, the foundation was laid for the Transfiguration Cathedral of the already functioning monastery, which was consecrated by Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich) in 2014. Through the efforts of Father Sophrony, a monastic building and a small temple in which the brethren prayed were built, and a skete was built.
