An MP of the European Solidarity party, Mykola Knyazhytskyy, has said that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church should become part of the OCU. The MP is convinced that this is what the law No. 8371, which is planned to be voted in the Verkhovna Rada in the second reading in the near future, is aimed at. About this he said on air of TV channel “Espresso”.

“My firm belief that we have one Orthodox Church, so they should become part of the OCU, if they consider themselves Orthodox, if they are just some cult that believes in the Lord – this is their right, but then they are not Orthodox – this was my idea, it was not supported by the majority, so it is enough for them to break relations with Moscow, re-register, if it is written in the statute, to prove that these ties are broken and they can further act in Ukraine as an independent Church, if these relations really will not be”, – explained

Knyazhytsky also believes that the vote for the bill #8371 can be brought to the next session of the Verkhovna Rada, but everything depends on the pro-presidential party “Servant of the People”.

“As voted on the Conciliation Council – there vote representatives of factions, but the majority of votes has the one who has the majority of votes in the hall – this means that if the faction “Servant of the People” wants to bring to the hall, it can bring it to the next meeting and we, as “European Solidarity” on this insist, but what will be their decision, I can not predict”, – summarized Knyazhytskyy.

We shall remind you that on March 5, 2024, a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy was held to discuss the draft law No. 8371. At the meeting, representatives of the authorities categorically rejected the need to establish any criteria. One of the deputies explained simply: “As you make it for yourself, so it will be”.
