People’s deputies want to vote to ban the UOC in February, in time for the second anniversary of the invasion

The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee for Humanitarian and Information Policy, Mykyta Poturaev (Servant of the People), has said that on 26 January the committee will consider draft law 8371 on banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. About it reports the publication lb.ua.

“Tomorrow at the Committee we go out to consider this issue. We have two projects planned for elaboration. One legislative initiative from the President regarding the English language (9432) and a government bill (8371) on the activities of religious organizations. I hope that the consideration will be productive and we will agree on everything. On the edits, everything has already been finalized. The table is ready, but it must then be transferred to the Council staff and then the conciliation council will decide”, – Poturaev said.

It is noted that there were more than 1000 amendments to the bill. Member of the Committee, MP Mykola Knyazhytskyy (EU) told how their “consideration” took place.

“Edits from adherents of the “Russian world” we rejected. Part of my proposals to ban the activities of this agency in Ukraine, the committee supported. We need to pass the committee as soon as possible and consider this bill in the session hall”, – said Knyazhytskyy.

MP Oleksandr Aliksiychuk (“Servant of the People”), who together with his colleague Yuliya Klymenko (“Golos”) collected signatures of MPs to bring the issue to the hall for the first reading last fall, said that the Verkhovna Rada should support the initiative in February, by the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion.

“I hope that the bill will come out of the profile committee and at the next meeting of the Verkhovna Rada will be included in the agenda by the conciliatory council. I believe that the heads of factions and groups understand all the responsibility and the requirement of society in the adoption of this bill and no, God forbid, personal interests or relations of someone with someone, will not outweigh the interests of the country, society and every conscious Ukrainian on the scales. The fight for faith is another front with Muscovy, which we have no right to lose”, – Alixiychuk said.

Yuliya Klymenko added that this project should be voted for without delay, as “the Muscovites are climbing out of all holes”.
