Metropolitan Nikephoros of Kykkos of the Cypriot Orthodox Church has expressed the opinion that the war in Ukraine could be a foreshadowing of World War III, Rumfei’s source reports.
In a sermon on the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (September 8, New Style), Metropolitan Nikephoros said that today is “a critical moment in history, when new geopolitical, geostrategic and geo-economic interests are changing the face of the world and threatening a global nuclear war.”
“The ongoing war in Ukraine may well be a harbinger or, even worse, a precursor to a great, final, third world war, this time a nuclear one,” the hierarch believes.
He also recalled Einstein’s words about the third world war: “If there is a third world war, the fourth will be fought with clubs.”
“And Einstein, in saying this, was referring to the bomb in Hiroshima, which left the possibility of survival. But today’s nuclear weapons eliminate that possibility. If, by all means, another world war occurs, and this time it will be a nuclear holocaust, life will be destroyed, we will have the total destruction of the world,” the Cypriot hierarch added.
