Moldova plans attack on Church and its property – ex-president

Former Moldovan President Igor Dodon said on his Telegram page that the country’s authorities were making decisions that could result in the seizure of monasteries from the Church and the expulsion of monks.

Dodon said that for him “it was unacceptable to adopt dubious documents that strike a blow to our morals and spiritual tradition and to which the Orthodox Church of Moldova categorically objected.”

The politician emphasized that “Orthodoxy is the basis of our national identity” and the Moldovan people “have no other faith and no other spiritual tradition.”

According to Dodon, incumbent Moldovan President Maia Sandu and the PAS party are leading an anti-church campaign, “which has been going on in our country for the third year.” And it is they who advocate “pride marches”, while “foreign ambassadors lead these marches and display symbols on their embassy buildings that promote values and ideas absolutely alien to our people”.

The former president said that already “the Chisinau Court of Appeal of April 5 this year annulled two contracts between the Moldovan Ministry of Culture and the Orthodox Church of Moldova.”

“The consequence of such a decision could be the seizure of monastery buildings from the Church and the expulsion of monks from there,” Igor Dodon concluded.
