On April 28, 2023, at the regular thirty-ninth session of the Ostroh City Council, the deputies adopted an appeal to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine regarding the immediate implementation of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This is reported by the local edition ostrog.rayon.in.ua.
The elected representatives are asking to ban the UOC, because allegedly “its activities are openly anti-state and anti-Ukrainian in nature.”
The author of the publication, Ivan Glushman, also noted that this is the first decision of the Ostroh City Council that concerns the UOC.
“Other city, district and regional councils have long gone further, in particular, terminated land lease agreements with the UOC-MP, banned its activities on their territory. It can be stated that our region is trailing behind de-Russification on the territory of Western Ukraine. Even more eastern regions , in particular Khmelnytsky, Zhytomyr, have done more than our Bandera region … “- stressed Glushman.
