Metropolitan Feodosiy of Cherkassy and Kanev appealed to the flock and believers from house arrest, urged the clergy not to remain silent about the situation in the Church, and also to initiate peaceful protests.
“Thinking about today, when our Church is going through trials, a period of persecution is passing, when terrible things are happening around the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, when churches are set on fire and destroyed, when churches are seized and cathedrals are given to people who have nothing to do with them, they were not built , and there immediately becomes no one to pray there (in the captured churches), when our Church is in such social conditions, conditions of persecution, we not only can – church hierarchs, priests, laity – we can not only raise our voice in defense of the Church, but also should do it,” says Bishop Feodosiy.
The Metropolitan emphasized: “If the state raises persecution of the Church, then the Church reserves the right not only to resist, but also to initiate various kinds of peaceful protests – they can advocate for a wide range of issues – from demands to change anti-church legislation to demands that on the international level the voice of the Church was heard and pressure (or persecution) on the Church was stopped.”
