On April 19, 2023, the city council of the city of Sambir in the Lviv region banned the activities of the UOC community. The corresponding document, signed by the mayor of the city Yuriy Gamar, was published by Lviv News Manufactory.

The deputies argued their decision by the fact that the UOC allegedly “has a church-canonical connection” with the Moscow Patriarchate, and also “poses a threat to the state sovereignty of Ukraine”:

“Prohibit the activities of a legal entity – the Religious Community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, registered at the address: Lviv region, Sambir, st. Peremyshylska, 25 A, as a structural division of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
