The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy recommended that the parliament adopt a draft resolution on an appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers with a proposal to terminate the lease agreement for the complexes of buildings of the Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra with the UOC and return it to the state. The agreement with the UOC is not beneficial to the state. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the Committee Evgenia Kravchuk on Facebook on Friday, April 7.
“At today’s meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, it was recommended to adopt (with the committee’s amendments) a draft resolution on verifying the compliance of the Pochaev Holy Dormition Lavra with the terms of agreements on the gratuitous use of religious buildings and other property that is state property,” she wrote.
According to the deputy, the agreement with the UOC on the lease of the Pochaev Lavra is “most unbalanced and not beneficial to the state.”
“Unfortunately, the Pochaev Lavra has turned into an “island”, where neither ministerial checks nor public control are allowed. We are convinced that the Ukrainian shrine should be freed from the hostages of a hostile religious organization by terminating the contract for gratuitous use with the UOC-MP and conducting an appropriate check,” Kravchuk added.
