Fyodor Venislavsky: UOC can be banned for collaborationism

If the clergy of the UOC are held accountable for collaborationism, this may become the basis for a ban on this religious organization. This was stated at a briefing at the Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Center by the representative of the President in the Verkhovna Rada Fyodor Venislavsky.

“Both the Constitution of Ukraine (Article 35) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights allow legitimate, provided for by appropriate threats, restrictions on the right of citizens to freedom of opinion and religion. That is, the Constitution of Ukraine provides that for the purposes of public safety, public welfare, and the health of citizens, the right to freedom of opinion may be limited by law. The Law of Ukraine “On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations” provides that if the clergy of a particular religious organization are held criminally liable for collaborationism and collaboration activities, then this is one of the additional grounds for banning the activities of the relevant religious organization,” Venislavsky noted.

He also stated that if the clergy, who are representatives of a certain religious organization, commit illegal actions that are detrimental to the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, then criminal liability may be applied to them, and they will bear legal responsibility already in criminal law. aspect. And a religious organization can be banned in court.
