The UOC should consider the issue of resuming communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Metropolitan Filaret of Lviv and Galicia said this in an interview with Glavkom.
Answering the question “Does your church now need to renew unity with Patriarch Bartholomew?”, he said: “Yes, it should be restored with all the Local Churches. But canonical communion and commemoration of the patriarch are two different things. The Holy Synod terminates canonical communion with some church for certain reasons, and the UOC ceased communion with the Local Churches due to the fact that they recognized the Tomos of the OCU without taking into account the positions of the UOC.
Our church should consider resuming this fellowship. I believe that His Beatitude Onufry will make the right decision on how to proceed. The Council gave him the authority and the right to commemorate, as the Primate of an independent church, the diptych of the Local Churches. I personally would consider it right if His Beatitude began to commemorate all the primates, regardless of the fact that we have interrupted canonical communion with some churches, for example with the Patriarchate of Constantinople.”
