The issue of allocating a land plot in Cairo for the construction of a cathedral for the North African Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) will be decided at the highest level, the first visit of the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa to the continent is now being prepared to this country. Exarch Metropolitan Leonid of Klin told TASS about this after talks on Tuesday in Moscow with the Egyptian Ambassador to Russia, Ihab Nasr.
“This will be [discussed] during my visit, which is now being prepared to the Arab Republic of Egypt. This will be decided at the highest level of Egyptian statehood. Now the active phase of preparing my visit to Egypt is underway,” Metropolitan Leonid said, answering a question about whether whether it was possible to agree during a meeting with the ambassador on the allocation of a site for the construction of the Russian Orthodox Church Cathedral in Cairo.
