On October 7, on the day of commemoration of the holy First Martyr Equal to the Apostles Thekla of Iconia, Metropolitan Melety of Chernivtsi and Bukovina and Archbishop Peter of Chicago and Central America laid the foundation stone for the beginning of the construction of a church in honor of the Holy Great Martyr John of Suceava in the village of Ternavka, Chernivtsi region. This was reported by the Information and Education Department of the UOC.
The bishops were co-served by the Dean of the Hertsaevsky District, Mitred Archpriest Pavel Dumitru and the clergy of the diocese.
At the end of the consecration, Vladyka Meletius congratulated the believers on the beginning of a good deed and delivered a sermon. Vladyka Peter distributed icons to the clergy and all believers in commemoration of his visit to Bukovina.
As a reminder, on September 29, 2021, Archbishop Peter of Chicago and Central America (ROCOR), at the invitation of Metropolitan Philip of Poltava and Mirgorod, visited the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Mgarsky Monastery of the Poltava Diocese of the UOC. On September 30, on the Day of Remembrance of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Nadezhda, Lyubov and their mother Sophia, the hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, together with the administrator of the Poltava diocese, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the church in honor of the holy martyrs of the city of Poltava.
