Should we expect provocations at the enthronement in Montenegrin Berane?

On September 25, Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia again goes to Montenegro on the occasion of the enthronement of the newly elected bishop, Bishop Methodius (Ostoich) of Budimlja and Nikšić.

The question arises whether to expect provocations from President Milo Djukanovic and other radicals, such as those that took place in Cetinje and its environs on September 4-5.

Of course, they will try to do something, at least to demonstrate their anger and rage. Another question is that Berane, where the monastery of St. George is, does not match Cetinje, but the people living here are sincerely devoted to their Church. In addition, the very geography of the place is such that it will be very difficult and almost impossible to block something. The landscape, geography and the mood of the local Serbs are here in favor of church deanery.

The diocese is located in the north of the country. Its two centers are the monastery of St. George in Berane and the cathedral in Nikšić. The people here were united in protests against Djukanovic’s voluntarism in 2019-2020.

The cathedra was founded by St. Savva in the XIII century.
