Up to 70% of churches damaged after shelling in Ukraine belong to the UOC

From February 24 to August 23, 2022, as a result of a full-scale Russian invasion of the territory of Ukraine, at least 205 religious buildings were destroyed or damaged, 132 of which were temples of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This was reported by the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience, reports the Information and Education Department of the UOC.

Religious objects were damaged in at least 14 regions. The largest number of destroyed religious buildings was in Lugansk (56) and Donetsk (48) regions, followed by Kyiv (34) and Kharkov (25) regions.

68% (132 buildings) of the 195 damaged Christian sites belong to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
