Montenegrin President accused Serbian Church of “justified calculation”

Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic accused the Serbian Orthodox Church in the country of deliberately aggravating relations with the authorities in order to win the opposition in the elections on August 30, 2020, RIA Novosti writes.

In January, the Montenegrin president was constitutionally forced to sign amendments to the controversial law on freedom of religion and the status of religious communities, which were twice approved by the new convocation of parliament, which threatened the rights of the SOC. The previous version of the law, adopted in 2019 by its supporters, sparked massive protests from citizens led by the clergy in 2019-2020.
