Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia suggested thinking about limiting surrogacy in Russia for citizens of the country and prohibiting it for foreigners. He stated this at the IX Parliamentary Meetings in the framework of the International Educational Readings in the parliament, Hromadske reports.
“I urge the State Duma to put an end to the use of surrogacy services for foreigners, and also to think about limiting this phenomenon in Russia. After all, in our country it destroys family unity and becomes a form of exploitation of women,” said the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church.
He noted that the Russian Church does not bless surrogacy: selling a woman’s parental potential abroad is immoral. At the same time, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church noted that in matters of changing the norms of family legislation, a public consensus is needed, which will be based on the opinions of families with children.
