The Church of the Holy Week was robbed in the Serbian village of Gornja Gushterica (municipality of Gracanica, Kosovo and Metohija) on the night of March 16, 2021. Local residents discovered damage to the temple and the loss of money in the morning, Pravlife reports.
The intruders broke down the doors, emptied the church office, and caused other material damage. Over the past ten days, this is the fifth Orthodox church in the Serbian communities of Kosovo and Metohija, which suffered at the hands of vandals and robbers.
The Chancellery for Kosovo and Metohija under the Serbian government stressed that what is happening speaks of the threat to which the Serbian religious heritage is constantly exposed. It is significant that attacks on churches became more frequent on the eve of the anniversary of the March 2004 pogrom, when 35 Orthodox religious buildings were destroyed in Kosovo and Metohija, about 10,000 valuable frescoes, icons and other church relics were destroyed, as well as books of baptisms, marriages and deaths, testifying about the centuries-old residence of Serbs in the autonomous region.
The Office for Kosovo and Metohija called on the representatives of the authorities in Pristina and international institutions, committed to protecting Serbian religious heritage, to urgently investigate these crimes and bring those responsible to justice.
