The activities of religious organizations should be determined by the Constitution, and not by the sympathies of officials, – hierarch of the UOC

Religious organizations are equal before the law, and their activities should be determined by the Constitution, and not by the sympathies of officials. Bishop of Baryshevsky Viktor (Kotsaba), wrote about this in his Telegram channel, commenting on the creation of the “Union of Orthodox Lawyers”.

“Undoubtedly, Orthodox Christians need to unite for the legal protection of their shrines, because in a country where the religious situation continues to be unsettled, the emergence of human rights organizations is dictated by necessity.

From the history of our people, we know that at one time on the territory of modern Ukraine there were numerous Orthodox brotherhoods that were engaged in missionary activity, enlightenment and defended the Church in the legal field.

Today it is worth returning to this practice and initiating the creation of such brotherhoods that would unite caring Christians and help the Church to better fulfill its main function – to testify of the Risen Christ and bring people to union with God,” the bishop emphasized.

At the same time, according to him, “it is worth focusing once again on the fact that in Ukraine, which positions itself as a democratic and civilized state, there should be the rule of law, not the right to rule. All religious organizations are equal before the law, and their activities should be determined by the Constitution, and not by the sympathies of officials. ”

He expressed the hope that the “Union of Orthodox Lawyers” will effectively act within the framework of the law and constantly remind of this framework to those who seek to go beyond them.
