Local Churches refuted Epiphany’s words that they recognize the OCU

The head of the OCU, “metropolitan” Epiphanius, stated that the churches of Jerusalem, Romania, Albania, Georgia and Bulgaria are ready to recognize the autocephaly of the OCU. However, this is not the case, according to the site vimaorthodoxias.gr.

Most of these Churches did not agree to do this, and denied these views of Epiphanius, the site writes.

The authors of the article write: The Albanian Orthodox Church has not changed its position regarding the autocephalous and ecclesiastical schism in Ukraine, and the Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church, Archbishop Anastasiy, said that he was “surprised by this news,” and “The Holy Synod of the Albanian Church did not make a decision on this matter, and everything related to this issue has already been said by the Holy Synod of the Church and posted on our website. We cannot add anything new. Since then, nothing has changed. ”

In turn, Romanian Patriarch Daniel said that he did not know “on what facts Metropolitan Autocephalous Epiphanius bases his claims about the future relations of Autocephaly with the Romanian Orthodox Church.” He also referred to the recommendation of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Church “to the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Moscow Patriarchate to come to a joint decision, preserving the unity of faith, administrative and pastoral freedom.”

Metropolitan Gabriel of Lovchansky of the Bulgarian Church, in connection with Epiphany’s statement, said that the BOC had not yet considered the issue of the church situation in Ukraine: “The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Church has appointed an episcopal committee, which includes the Monk Metropolitan Cyprian of Stary Zagorsk, and a report on this is expected at the meetings Of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Church ”. “Therefore, it is not yet possible to draw conclusions about what the hierarchs will decide at the Synod,” he added, given that many supported the head of the UOC.

A similar position was taken by the Georgian Church, the website explains.

The Jerusalem Patriarchate did not give an immediate response to Epiphanius’s statements, but a few days later the Patriarch of Jerusalem, although he said that he would not want his comments to affect the unity of the Orthodox Church, said that “it is important for all Orthodox Christians to be part of the One Holy, Catholic and the Apostolic Church.
