Metropolitan Athanasius of Limassol, hierarch of the Orthodox Church 0f Cyprus, made a statement to support the believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Metropolitan Athanasius said that he was watching with pain the events that took place in church life in Ukraine after the provision of the tomos to the OCU. The video message is published by the UOC.

The Metropolitan has repeatedly expressed words of support for Orthodox Ukrainians and urged them to remain faithful to the canonical Church and to His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry. In particular, recently the Orthodox of Cyprus were amazed and saddened by the events covered in the film Faithful: Hymn of Love about true Christians from the villages of Butin and Kinakhovtsy of the Ternopil eparchy, who lost their churches, but did not lose love for each other and for their offenders.

The hierarch of the Cypriot Orthodox Church in support of the believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church recorded a video message in which he said: “with sorrow and pain we follow the persecution, as well as the struggle that our brothers – Orthodox Christians in Ukraine are waging to defend the true faith and devotion to the canonical Church Metropolitan Onuphry. ”

“We express our empathy, our love, we assure in our prayers and we call on our brothers to remain faithful to the Church and the canonical Metropolitan of Ukraine Onuphry. We pray that the grace of the Holy Spirit would strengthen, support and comfort them, and that they would be sure that one day persecution and difficulties will be overcome, and the truth of Christ and the canonicity of the Church will triumph, as the Lord has told us.
