My colleagues and I do not understand why such a hysterical reaction from one of our largest churches – Deputy Poturaev on Law No. 8371

The head of the committee for humanitarian and information policy, MP of the pro-presidential party Mykyta Poturaev, continues to convince the public that draft law No 8371 is not really aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He said this in an interview with the Novini. LIVE”.

“My colleagues and I do not understand why such a hysterical reaction from one of our largest churches. They say they are not part of the Russian Orthodox Church, but at the same time they are very worried about the law that says you cannot be part of the Russian Orthodox Church. Where does that kind of nervousness come from? I don’t understand. Because if you are not part of the ROC, you have nothing to worry about”, – the MP emphasized.

The MP repeated the statement that according to this law, before banning a religious organization, an appropriate examination will be conducted and, if there are violations, they must be eliminated within 30 days.

“Already based on its results, this service (SSEFC, – ed.) may or may not come to the conclusion that this religious organization is part of the Russian Orthodox Church or any other aggressive religious organization that is embedded in the Russian state. Then they issue a prescription in which they say, ‘You have 30 days to correct these violations of the law”, – Poturaev said.

It is worth noting that draft law No. 8371 is gradually “growing” with new details. If earlier among its supporters it was about banning the UOC, today the rhetoric has become more vague. For example, the head of SSEFC Viktor Yelensky recently stated that Law No. 8371 is not aimed at banning the UOC. At the same time, we would like to remind you that the head of the committee for humanitarian and information policy, an MP of the pro-presidential party, Mykyta Poturaev, said that after the adoption of Law No. 8371, communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will be able to be banned based on the results of publications in the mass media, statements by local authorities or public organizations.
