The State Service for Ethno-politics and Freedom of Conscience has published statistics on religious communities in Ukraine. In total, the SSEFC counted 36,195 religious communities, 552 monasteries and 201 religious educational institutions. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church has the most registered and active communities, the media reported.
It is reported that the largest number of congregations still belong to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – 29%, the OCU owns 22% of congregations, the UGCC is in third place (almost 10% of congregations). In terms of the number of monasteries, the OCU is in fourth place after the UOC, which owns 39% of monasteries, the RCC (22% of monasteries) and the UGCC (20%). And the All-Ukrainian Union of Evangelical Christian Baptist Churches and the OCU (13%) have the most spiritual schools (19%). In total, communities of more than 90 different religious denominations and movements are represented in Ukraine.
We shall remind you that earlier we reported that the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KMIS) published the results of a survey on the ban of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, conducted at the end of April 2024. According to KMIS, 63% of Ukrainian citizens believe that the UOC should be completely banned.
