Metropolitan Neophyte of Morph: Decisions of the Council of the UOC in Feofaniya are canonical

Metropolitan Neophyte of Morph in an interview with the UOJ noted that the decisions of the Council of the UOC in Feofaniya are canonical.

“The decision regarding peace is the right one, and, in my opinion, even somewhat belated. Onufry and his Synod could have made such a decision earlier. And they should have made this decision even before the start of the war,” said Metropolitan Neophyte.

The hierarch claims that the Churches can take myrrh from some historical center, for example, Jerusalem, Antioch or Constantinople, but this tradition is only a tribute to them.

“If someday the Cypriot Church makes such a decision, she will be able to brew myrrh herself, as, for example, she herself celebrates the Divine Liturgy. It’s canonical. But there are reasons for special reverence and respect when you take myrrh from some historical center, such as from Constantinople or Jerusalem, the Mother of Churches,” the bishop said.

Metropolitan Neophyte also considers the decisions of the Council of the UOC regarding the formula for commemoration of the patriarch, as well as the opening of foreign parishes, as canonical, but does not support the practice of several Local Churches being represented on the same territory.

“For example, if Russians or Ukrainians come to Cyprus. What, will they organize their Russian or Ukrainian Church here? No. They must submit to the Orthodox Church of Cyprus. What will happen if the Russians come here and want to make their Russian Church here, the Americans – American, the Serbs – Serbian, the Bulgarians – Bulgarian? You can not do it this way. It is prohibited,” he said.

According to the metropolitan, this problem should be solved by the future Ecumenical Council.
