On the eve of the anniversary of the cathedral in Feofania, Archbishop Sylvester of Belogorodsky analyzed its decisions and the near-church processes that had taken place over the past year. The Internet portal Dialogue.HERE writes about this.
The bishop Sylvester noted that in Ukraine there was not and there is no practice of legislative prohibition of churches or religious organizations.
“During the thirty years of independence, various religious figures could be put on trial for their crimes and face legal punishment. But this never meant a ban on religious organizations proper,” he said.
The hierarch noted that the ban on the activities of certain religious groups is typical of authoritarian and totalitarian regimes. For democratic societies, this path is unacceptable.
“And if our state takes the path of a legislative ban on the UOC, this will be a blow to the democratic principles of our society. We must not allow such a transformation,” Archbishop Sylvester emphasized.
