Bulgarian Orthodox Church considers union with Rome ‘shameful’

The Patriarchal and Synodal Message of the BOC on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the restoration of the patriarchate points to the firmness of the Bulgarians in the Orthodox faith and evaluates the union with the Vatican as “shameful”.

According to the Bulgarian hierarchs, “on the long and thorny historical path” of the BOC there were many trials and temptations, including “numerous attempts to incline towards a shameful union with the papacy.”

“The Orthodox Bulgarian people, despite all the trials and all sorts of temptations to which they were subjected, remained true to the most important thing: throughout all this time, our spiritual leaders, the priesthood and monasticism, and all our worthy ancestors remained firm in the Orthodox faith, did not deviate to the left, not to the right of the royal path, but preserved the pure “faith, once and for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3),” the hierarchs of the Bulgarian Church emphasized.
