Political scientist: UOC is not banned because its position in the Ukrainian government remains strong

Political scientist Oleksiy Koshel believes that it is time to make cardinal decisions regarding the activities of the UOC in Ukraine. He said this on the air of Hromadske radio.

“At first, the Ukrainian authorities took an absolutely correct position regarding the Moscow Patriarchate Church. Then this tactic of small steps was appropriate. But now we see that it did not work and therefore more drastic decisions must be made,” Koshel said.

According to the political scientist, such cardinal decisions should be the simplification of the transition from one church to another and the prohibition of the UOC.

“I have an explanation why this is not happening, there can be only one thing – the position of the Moscow Patriarchate in the Ukrainian government remains quite strong,” he added.
