Prayer house of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church destroyed in Chernihiv region

On May 1, 2023, as a result of the shelling of the border village of Gremyach in the Chernihiv region, the northernmost settlement in Ukraine, the prayer house, which had been used by the Orthodox community in honor of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, was severely damaged for 67 years. This was reported by the press service of the Chernihiv diocese of the UOC.

“This prayer house was built in 1947, during the difficult post-war period, instead of two churches destroyed in the village by the atheistic authorities, and operated until 2014,” the website reports.

From a missile attack on the building, the vestibule was completely burned down, the roof was damaged.

In the current Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, consecrated in 2014, the blast wave knocked out the door.
