The head of the OCU, Epifaniy Dumenko, in an interview with Gazeta.ua, answered the question of planning a church calendar reform.
“We have chosen a strategy of measured and gradual steps in order to prepare the flock and not get a church division on this issue, examples of which, unfortunately, are in the world. Now our parishes can already choose which calendar to follow,” Dumenko said.
The “Metropolitan” announced that already in May, at the Bishops’ Council, a corresponding general church decision on this matter would be made. According to him, “the implementation of this reform in the first place will make it possible to switch to a more accurate calendar and avoid a gradual shift in immovable holidays in the future.”
“Our goal is actually good – it is better to witness the light of Christ’s truth. To do this, we make translations and revisions of certain church literature and implement the appropriate church reforms,” the “hierarch” added.
As previously reported, from September 1, 2023, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine is switching to a new style for immovable holidays while maintaining the current Easter.
