Students of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, whose relatives defend Ukraine at the front, asked not to expel the Kyiv Theological Schools from the Lavra

Students of the Kiev Theological Academy and Seminary, whose relatives and friends defend Ukraine, appealed to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the government of Ukraine and everyone on whom it depends, with a request not to expel the Kiev Theological Schools from the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and give them the opportunity to study. The Information and Education Department of the UOC publishes this video message with a link to the press service of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary.

“From the beginning of Russia’s full-scale military invasion against Ukraine, the Kiev Theological Academy, together with the entire Ukrainian Orthodox Church and all Ukrainians, came out in defense of Ukraine and condemned the aggressor,” the appeal says.

The students noted that with the blessing of the rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, Archbishop Sylvester of Belogorod, Kyiv theological schools continue to provide comprehensive support to Ukrainian defenders and civilians who suffered during the war. Those who lost their homes because of the war found their refuge within the walls of the Academy. Since the beginning of the war, relatives and friends of students and pupils of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary have been defending our Motherland in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The forces of our Church delivered tons of humanitarian aid to those affected by the hostilities. The Academy, like the entirety of our Church, is constantly praying for the Ukrainian authorities and Ukrainian defenders, looking forward to victory and the return of servicemen home.”

“However, unfortunately, on March 29, 2023, Kyiv theological schools must leave their place of residence in connection with the decision of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine,” the appeal says.

In view of this, students are asked not to close the Kyiv Theological Academy in order to continue to carry out their invisible but important service, namely a prayer to God for the victory of Ukraine and the long-awaited peace.
