The Ministry of Culture told why the UOC should leave the Lavra

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy published on its website a brief message about “violations” by the UOC, which “may be the basis for terminating the lease agreement on the free use <…> of buildings and other property” of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.

The list of claims includes “unauthorized reconstruction, completion, redevelopment of cultural heritage monuments and the construction of new buildings on the territory of the reserve”, “misuse of the basement of 1914”, “improper maintenance of an architectural monument of local importance” – a book warehouse in building No. 113. What kind of objects are in question (except for the last one), the Ministry of Culture did not specify.

In addition, the monastery is blamed for the sublease of the buildings of the Lavra to the Kyiv Metropolis and the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary of the UOC without the permission of the reserve.
