On February 6, 2023, Yevstraty Zorya on his Telegram channel recalled that the OCU decided to switch to a new style earlier than the UGCC.
“In connection with the decision of the UGCC on the calendar, I would like to recall that the Synod of the OCU has already decided that communities that wish to switch to the new style can do this according to the appropriate procedure,” Zorya emphasized.
In addition, he said that “the question of a general calendar reform has been submitted for consideration by the Council of Bishops, which will meet in May.”
“By September 1, when the new church year begins, there is still time. In my opinion, as one of the members of the Council of Bishops, there are all the arguments and grounds for making a positive decision, while at the same time providing an opportunity for people who wish this to preserve the previous calendar tradition. Because the experience of reforms in the past shows that problems arise where the reform is implemented “in an instant”, without preparation, “from above” and without the possibility of an alternative for those who are not ready to accept it,” Zorya assured.
He also added that so far the OCU “has acted in the opposite spirit: gradualism, considering all arguments, providing an alternative. I’m sure this is the best way.”
