The EU will soon announce sanctions against Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ and, possibly, members of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, writes From his bell tower.
Talks about EU sanctions against the patriarch have been going on for a long time, but they are blocked by Hungary, which opposes the application of any sanctions to religious figures. Her position on this issue has not changed yet.
Experts believe that the sanctions will have a “limited effect”, since “Europe has made it possible for the Russian Orthodox Church to withdraw all of his (the patriarch’s – ed.) accounts and re-register the property,” the newspaper writes.
