Deputies from the “EU” demand from the Constitutional Court to unblock the law on renaming churches

Deputies of the Kyiv City Council from the European Solidarity faction and civil activists appealed to the judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine with a letter demanding to unblock the law on renaming churches. This is reported by “Pryamiy”.

The initiator of the appeal, a public figure, people’s deputy of the seventh convocation Alexander Briginets said: “Last time we appealed to one judge who overstayed the consideration period by 4 years. Now we are appealing to the entire court with a request to unblock the law that was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada. I reported it to VR. This law is very simple, it does not require any special procedure: it’s just that churches that have a center in Moscow should be called Russian.

“I am convinced that after people understand who still does not understand that this is not a Ukrainian church, but a Russian one, this will accelerate the process of closing this “fifth column”, this Russian corporation in Ukraine,” Briginets believes.

“Many people ask why this has not been done before. Before Tomos, this was impossible. Because before the Tomos was received by Poroshenko and the Ukrainian Church after the Unification Council, the Church (UOC – Ed.) was legitimate on the territory of Ukraine and canonical. The canonicity was finally lost during the transfer of Tomos to us on January 6, 2019. The law was adopted only when it became obvious that a new reality had arrived. Therefore, the law on renaming was adopted just then, and not earlier,” Briginets explained.

The former people’s deputy promised that “there will be more appeals and letters to the Constitutional Court, perhaps not only to him. The role of the prosecutor’s office will be determined, which, obviously, should also evaluate the activities of judges of the Constitutional Court.”
