Serbian human rights activists protest against the intervention of the Latvian authorities in the issue of the status of the Orthodox Church

The Center for the Protection of Christian Identity (Belgrade, Serbia) protested against the actions of the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, who submitted to the national parliament a draft law on changing the status of the Latvian Orthodox Church, which has the status of a self-governing one under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate, Interfax writes.

“From a legal point of view, the adoption of the submitted bill is undoubtedly a gross violation of the Constitution of Latvia and the current principle of separation of Church and State,” says the appeal, signed by the president of this human rights organization, Diogenis D. Valavanidis
