Archimandrite Kirill (Govorun): The UOC will not be the same as before

Archimandrite Kirill (Govorun) spoke on the air of Suspіlny about how he sees the future of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This is reported by the website of St. Andrew’s Church.

The religious figure noted that this would depend on many factors.

“First of all, of course, from the successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Secondly, on how this church itself will behave in this situation,” said Kirill Govorun.

He added that the UOC would not be the same as before, and suggested that it might unite with the OCU.

“To be honest, I don’t think that it will remain within the framework, in the forms in which it has existed until now. I hope that the future of the UOC will be in unity with the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. In the end, what form this unity will take is another question. They must agree among themselves. But sooner or later, I hope that there will be a Single Local Church in Ukraine, which will unite all the Orthodox. Of course, this should happen after some kind of catharsis, purification,” the theologian said.

Archimandrite Kirill expressed confidence that such an association would help the recognition of the OCU and obtain the status of a patriarchy.

“I am absolutely sure that this will push, firstly, to the recognition of the autocephaly of the OCU by all Local Churches, and moreover, even that this will make it possible to create the Ukrainian Patriarchate. That this united Church will receive the status of the Patriarchal,” Kirill Govorun summed up.
