On the 5th of October, 2022, a regular session of the Poltava City Council was held, at which, among others, they discussed the issue of preparing an appeal to the President and Parliament to ban the UOC on the territory of Ukraine, but there were not enough votes of deputies to make a decision. It is reported by zmist.pl.ua.
Before the start of the voting, the mayor of Poltava, Alexander Mamai, said that the authorities had no right to interfere in the affairs of religion, but some deputies did not agree with him. However, Mamai and the rest of the deputies did not vote for this draft decision. In general, the preparation of the appeal was supported by 14 deputies, so there was not a majority of votes to support the document.
Recall that the Poltava City Council planned to vote for the appeal to ban the UOC on the 5th of September, but this issue was removed from the agenda.
