On July 28, 2022, as a result of a rocket hitting the water station of the National University of Shipbuilding in Nikolaev, the nearby Church of St. Catherine the Great Martyr of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was also damaged. The mayor of Nikolaev Alexander Senkevich reported about the destruction in his Telegram channel.

“Fortunately, the rocket hit the open area and the training equipment survived. Partially destroyed only the warehouse. Windows in multi-storey buildings around were partially damaged. Also, the windows were broken in the nearby church,” Sienkevich wrote.
