Rivne city council asks to create another “OCU”

The deputies of the Rivne City Council appealed to the representatives of the UOC and the OCU with a call to form a Single Local Church. This was reported by the press service of the Rivne diocese of the UOC.

On July 8, at a regular meeting of the Rivne Council session, the deputies wrote an appeal to the Primate of the UOC, Metropolitan Onufry, the head of the OCU, Epiphanius Dumenko, and all Orthodox Ukraine about the need for unification.

“We urge you, Your Eminences, to take concrete actions in order to form a Single Local Church in Ukraine,” the text of the appeal reads.

The appeal was supported by 29 deputies.

“It is known that the decisions of the Council of the UOC of May 27 of this year marked the beginning of the movement of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to withdraw from the subordination of the ROC.

The next important and significant step was the recent “Declaration of Mutual Understanding” dated July 05, 2022, adopted as a result of the first meeting of the clergy of the OCU and the UOC in the walls of St. Sophia of Kyiv…

All this tells us that the unification of churches is possible. Everything must be done to make it finally a reality. And there is nowhere to put it off.

We urge you, Your Eminences, to take concrete actions in order to form a Single Local Church in Ukraine… We must not allow the enemy to sow discord among Ukrainians. But we must not hesitate,” the deputies urge.

Earlier it was reported that on this day the Rivne City Council adopted a moratorium on religious issues.
