The community of the last functioning UOC cathedral in the Ivano-Frankivsk region appealed to the President of Ukraine with a request to prevent the raider seizure of the temple

On July 3, 2022, after a late Divine Liturgy, the clergy and parishioners of the Cathedral in honor of the Nativity of Christ, led by Bishop Veniamin of Khotyn, who temporarily administers the Ivano-Frankivsk diocese, appealed to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky with a request to prevent attempts by the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk and other local officials to transfer the cathedral to OCU. This was reported by the Information and Education Department of the UOC.

On June 25, 2022, the Mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk Ruslan Martsinkiv, on his official Facebook page, addressed the residents of the city with the news about the transfer of the community of the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ to the OCU. In addition, the Ivano-Frankivsk OVA illegally registered a new edition of the charter of the religious community of the cathedral, according to which the community was transferred to the OCU. In response to such actions by local authorities, on June 26, 2022, the believers of the temple held a parish meeting. Not a single representative of the community spoke in favor of a change of jurisdiction.

Realizing that the parishioners of the cathedral remain faithful to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, on June 27, 2022, Ruslan Martsinkiv, live on his official Facebook page, called on the city residents to help the church community “physically move to the OCU.” And local official Myron Dmytryk and other individuals with extremist sentiments offered monetary rewards to those who provide lists of UOC believers who voted on June 26 to retain their confessional affiliation.

Taking into account such actions of local authorities, on July 3, 2022, members of the religious community of the cathedral, headed by Bishop Veniamin of Khotyn, temporarily administrator of the Ivano-Frankivsk diocese, appealed to the President of Ukraine V. A. Zelensky with a request to protect their constitutional right to freedom of religion.
