The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Patriarchate in its entirety, at its meeting on June 21, 2022, testified to the healing of the schism in the Macedonian Orthodox Church – the Ohrid Archdiocese (MPC-OA). The hierarchs voted for the corresponding decision after studying the letters of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and Patriarch Porfiry of Serbia on the canonical status of the MPC-OA, Pravlife writes.
“The Bulgarian Patriarchate, with gratitude to God and spiritual joy, welcomes the decision to remove the schism and enters into canonical and Eucharistic communion with the Orthodox Church of North Macedonia,” the Synod’s ruling says.
On the issue of the name “Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archdiocese”, the Bulgarian bishops did not make a final decision, with the wording that it “has yet to be considered”.
