On June 15, 2022, an online meeting of the Diocesan Synod of the Archdiocese of the Church of Constantinople in the USA was held. According to orthodoxianewsagency, in addition to the current issues in the life of the Archdiocese, including the approval of an updated list of its voters, it was about the election of the former ROCOR cleric, now Phanar`s cleric, Archimandrite Alexander Belya, as a bishop.
The synod decided to elect the head of the Slavic vicariate of the Archdiocese, Archimandrite Alexander Belya, as a bishop “under the title of the once glorious Episcopacy of Nikopol”.
The ordination of the bishop will take place on Saturday, July 30, at St. Matrona Church in Dania Beach, Florida.
Earlier, a publicist, cleric of the ROC Andrei Kuraev criticized the attempt to elect Alexander Bel to the bishops of ROCOR, saying that “the bishops of ROCOR imagined themselves at the meeting of the next Synod next to the crooked Bishop of Miami. And they were horrified. And they said: “No!”. Almost unprecedented for the Church Abroad after 2007, they said “no” to the Patriarch of Moscow!”
