The Greek hierarch of the UOC-KP demands the release of Ukrainian prisoners of Mariupol

On June 9, 2022, the hierarch of the UOC-KP in Greece, Chrysostom Kallis, published on Facebook an appeal to the UN, the Red Cross, the European Union, the head of the Greek government, as well as Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and other spiritual leaders with a request to intensify efforts for the exchange of prisoners of Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

Chrysostom Kallis recalls that the Ukrainian prisoners in Mariupol “defended the city of Mary to the end, and now they are Russian hostages, deserving honor and respect, not torture.”

The hierarch of the “Kyiv Patriarchate” in Greece, “Metropolitan” of Mariupol and Feodosia Chrysostomos expresses confidence that the Ukrainian government will continue its efforts to free them from captivity.

Earlier, the head of the UOC-KP “Patriarch” Filaret had published a similar appeal.
