On May 30, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy supported sanctions against representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and initiated the creation of a Temporary Commission of Inquiry to investigate the activities of collaborating priests. This is stated on the website of the Committee.
The Commission decided to apply personal and other sanctions against representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Also, the commission decided to “initiate the creation of a Temporary Investigative Commission in order to investigate the facts of collaboration activities of representatives of religious organizations during the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as the facts of war crimes of the armed forces of the Russian Federation against the clergy, crimes in the field of freedom of conscience and religion in conditions martial law, in particular in the temporarily occupied territories.
In addition, the commission intends to “work out legislative initiatives aimed at transparency of the financial, economic and educational and informational activities of religious organizations, the leading center (management) of which is located outside Ukraine in a state that is recognized by law as having committed military aggression against Ukraine and / or temporarily occupied part of the territory of Ukraine.
